The question for session 1: What type of system for data collection, information processing and reporting currently exists in your country? Did this change after the PMM regional course in Vietnam in December 2007? What are the challenges that you are currently experiencing with your system of data collection, processing and reporting?

Type of system for data collection, information processing and reporting currently exists in my country is data table, annual information of antimalarial drug use and needs, malaria situation and malaria reports of provinces in papers. This have not changed after the PMM regional course in Vietnam in December 2007.
The challenges that we are currently experiencing with our system of data collection, processing and reporting include: lacks of means for reporting from rural to central, many rural areas have difficulties to get informations and report their malaria situation, and lack of budget for improving information system.

Session 1:

Summary of response:

Type of data collected: drug consumption and malaria cases in provinces. Data collection has not essentially changed after the PMM course in Vietnam. Challenges included reporting from peripheral levels to the central level particularly from rural areas.

Issues to consider:
Consider capacity building of information systems; consider including systems strengthening in Global Fund and other proposals to donors. Consider using supervisory visits for data collection and reporting.

With respect to antimalarials in Myanmar, only RDT and ACT (Coartem) usage has been collected for every month since 2005, but report submission were not regular and no active monitoring system exists. Analysis of data is also weak in the current situation.

For GF project here in the Philippines, recently we have launched the Inventory Module System (IMS) the system is an Microsoft Access based wherein inventory and distribution report from the province level are submitted to the National Office.

The system can generate the # of tablets or laboratory supplies consumed by facility. It can also generate list of facilities having stock out for a specific period and the list of facilities replenished with drugs. These information are used in planning and forecasting drugs for next cycle procurement.

After the quantification training in Vietnam, provincial staff were taught to quantify their needs given the following parameters: Average consumption (last six months average), # patients diagnosed per facility
# of patients failed to response for first line drugs etc...
