Inter Regional Workshop on Monitoring of Insecticide Resistance for the Establishment of Biregional Network

The over‐all purpose of this workshop is to to improve knowledge on insecticide resistance status of adult mosquitoes, vector of diseases, and changing trends by increasing the capacity for appropriate IR monitoring that will allow participants to:

Perform insecticide susceptibility testing according to WHO standards;
Assess the level of insecticide resistance in vectors in their countries;
Monitor the quality and effectiveness of the vector control strategies, and
Advice responsible authorities on appropriate insecticide procurement for the country or provinces based on the IR status.
Non‐chemical means of mosquito control should be employed wherever possible using the principles of Integrated Vector Management.

This workshop is organized by the National Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology together with ACTMalaria, WHOand ITM‐Belgium to be held on 5 – 9 October 2009 in Hanoi, Vietnam. Financial assistance supported by WHO and USAID.
